I'd like to thank Iván for inviting me to participate in this event, as every released game of mine is a remake of a previously M.I.A./unreleased game (some of them are listed in WOS but not all of them). For understanding of the backstory, you can browse my unreleased games in www.worldxxisoft.com/history.html.
Just 30 years ago, I struggled to understand how to detect wall collisions in a Basic game. I had already got to detect collisions between sprites but I was unable to set up the order of sentences to detect and react to graphics already present in the screen (as it happened in the failed G.I.Joe, remade as G.I.Tech). After many attempts, I finally "discoved" how to do it, and the result was a game named "The Castle". This "success" was followed by a sequel (The Castle II) and subsequent platformers were consequences of the learning (Carlos Michelis I, II of 1989 and Mr. Pickles in 1990).
In order to release these games to the public, a heavy re-design and re-writing was made, but with the policy of keeping the programming 100% BASIC, as the originals, in order to properly compare the improvement against the potential of the original idea/story and the potential of BASIC language/O.S.
The result is a saga named after its title character, Max Pickles, a punk with a tragic story.
MAX PICKLES PART I: THE HAUNTED CASTLE
By the end of the 80's decade, the world was suffering deep social, economic and political changes. None of this was relevant for Max Pickles, a punk with a particular personality and appearence, but with big ambitions, amazing agility, and a great desire of getting rid of bullying about his persona.
One day, it came to his knowledge the existence of a secret map, detailing the exact location of an abandoned diamonds mine. This map is supposedly hidden in the interior of a huge medieval castle where strange phenomena take place, probably related to the ghosts of former dwellers.
Max found in this story the opportunity to make fortune and thus get respect and social validation. Your mission is to help him to retrieve the map of the diamonds mine, from the interior of the haunted castle itself, and flee from such horrible place.
Features:
- Designed for Spectrum 48K and compatibles, with standard ROM.
- 100% written in Basic, except M/C routines in loaders.
- Optimised for maximum execution speed, with minimum sprites' flickering.
- 12 highly detailed screens, combining action and puzzles.
For the purposes of evaluating the improvements over originals, you can watch this video: youtu.be/1XwAALnPWTM
For the purposes of evaluating graphics, you can see the full map here: www.worldxxisoft.com/images/Max%20Pickles%20I%20Map.gif

Max Pickles I, is an action arcade with puzzle flavors, a blend of concepts and graphics used in The Castle I and II and Mr. Pickles. This is the presentation:
